The Indianapolis 500 is where the pace car originated and is still used today. Used on the track regarding the warm up laps, and to pick up the leader in the middle of the race. Each time there is a new pace car for the Indy 500 Race and at the end of the race the winner usually receives the pace car or a replica like it. In 1978, it was the 62nd annual Indianapolis 500 and AL Unser Sr. took the 1st place win. The Chevrolet Corvette C3 was the car chosen to be the pace car this season. During the 78' race Jim Rathmann was the one who drove down the track, and had taken home the gold in previous years. This car has been carefully handled and treated like a queen by two owners. There was only 6,502 every made and this is an original. However, out of the 6,502 every made only 15% made were the Corvette C3. Now, this beauty spent most of its life in Kentucky. With the Pace Car original finish that is slick as can be and labeled with emblems that are clean this is one slick car.
