History

The C/K was Chevrolet and GMC's full-size pickup truck line from 1960 until 1999 in the United States. The first Chevrolet pickup truck appeared in 1924, though in-house designs did not appear until 1930. "C" indicated two-wheel drive and "K" indicated four-wheel drive. In 1971 the front brakes on all light-duty trucks were switched from drum brakes to disc brakes. While many prior C/K half-ton trucks had used a six-lug bolt pattern (6 x 5.5") for the wheels, two-wheel-drive models switched to a five-lug pattern (5 x 5–inch bolt circle). The 1/2 ton 4 x 4 retained the 6 lug bolt pattern. The 1972 models were virtually identical to 1971 models.
