How Can You Prevent Your Classic Car From Rusting?

Keep Rust off of Your Classic Car

Whether you’re a Mustang man or a Charger fan, nothing beats the fun of owning a classic car. Whether you like to hit the streets and gun the motor with the top down on summer nights, or you prefer to keep your car gleaming and beautiful in your garage, owning and caring for a classic car can give you years of fun and good memories. One of the scourges of owning an older car is rust, which can spoil your car’s appearance and damage critical engine components. If you’re worried about rust fuzz spreading on your antique car, here are some tips for keeping it shiny.

Wax On, Wax Off

You should give your car a thorough waxing at least every four months. This will give your car an additional layer of protection against oxidation, and will also give it that fresh-off-the-line sheen that looks so beautiful under the lights.

Watch Where You Store

If you’re going to be putting your car in long-term storage, make sure to do it in a place that won’t promote the spreading of rust. A storage garage with drips or puddles will expose your car to moisture, which will lead to rust. As a general rule, classic cars should be stored in areas that are dry and free of airborne debris.

Clean Spills Quickly

We know, you want to take your car out for a wild spin every now and again. There’s nothing wrong with that, until you take a sharp turn and spill your water on the interior. If you spill anything on your car, you should clean it up as quickly as possible. The longer the car is exposed to moisture, the greater the chance of rusting.
